Planting 1,100 trees near Frome, Somerset

Come and have a fun day or even a whole weekend with Protect Earth in the beautiful countryside! The new owner of this small farm needs help creating new microclimates and rewilding. Planting native trees will create homes for wildlife.

What is happening?

This farm is a redundant (too small) tenanted farm on the Somerset levels, which has been bought by a new owner, who is intent on creating microclimates and rewilding. Initially, 1100 native broadleaved trees are being planted here on the exposed boundary. The first couple of days will involve preparing the site for planting, the rest will be planting trees, together with stakes, guards, and biodegradable matting for weed control.

Full details will be sent out shortly before the event, including thefull address and meeting place.

We appreciate volunteers who are able to come for part of the day, a whole day or even several days. We love it when the local community gets involved in their area, and also welcome guests from further away. It allows us to make new friends, catch up with friends we've made, and learn what people love about their communities while talking to them about enriching local biodiversity.

What do I need to bring/ know?

No previous experience is necessary, we’ll train you up and provide all the necessary equipment. Please come dressed for the weather. Sturdy gardening gloves and boots/wellies are a must.

Please bring your own lunch and snacks, and a refillable water bottle as there will be water available to top up.

Whenever possible we encourage volunteers to car share, use public transportation, or even cycle, to keep emissions down and avoid stressing parking space.

What happens if Protect Earth needs to cancel?

Bad weather is difficult to plan for. In general, we will continue to plant if it’s raining, but if it’s looking dangerous or the ground is frozen we will have to cancel an event. We will try and notify you as soon as we possibly can, and you’ll be invited to the rescheduled event.
