Volunteers needed to plant 1050 trees and shrubs near Llanon, Ceredigion

Come and have a fun day planting native trees to extend the ancient woodland nearby.

What is happening?

Protect Earth is planting trees near Llanon, Ceredigion, Wales in February 2024.

This is a farm in West Wales lying on the edge of the extensive Cors Caranod Site of Special Scientific Interest. The landowner wants to plant trees on many areas of the farm, primarily to do something proactive to contribute to tackling the climate crisis.

We will be planting native trees and shrubs (mainly species already growing on site) mostly in drier botanically poor pasture areas, extending treelines and filling field corners. Increasing the tree cover will benefit various species already found on site including Tree Pipit, Redstart, Spotted Flycatcher and Willow Tit.

  • Where: near Llanon, Ceredigion

  • Date: 03.02.24 - 04.02.24

  • Time: 10.00 - 16.00

There are records of protected species from the site and others within 1km of the site including Water Vole, Badger, Otter, Barn Owl and other scarce species such as Bog Rosemary.

There is always lots of laughter and the satisfaction of helping the environment and reducing carbon.

When is this FREE event happening?

Protect Earth will be planting on two separate days:

  • Saturday, February 3rd,

  • Sunday, February 4th

We'll usually start the day around 10:00 a.m. with a brief introduction and demonstration on how to plant if you've not planted trees previously (spoiler - it's easy). The end of the day is usually 4:00 p.m. Children are welcome and do not need a ticket.

You can sign up for part of a day, a whole day, or all the days we'll be planting at this site. We love it when people come out; it gives us a chance to make new friends and share what people love about their communities while also talking to them about enhancing local wildlife.

What do I need?

No previous experience is necessary. We give a brief introduction and demonstrate what needs to be done, and all equipment is provided.

All you need to bring is appropriate clothing for the weather, sturdy boots and gloves and your own food and drink. Tea and coffee will also be available.

Car sharing is recommended for this event where possible as public transport in this area is poor. There is plenty of car parking available.

Full details, together with the address of this property, what3words location, etc. will be sent the week before the event. In the meantime, feel free to ask questions.

How do I confirm I'd like to go?

It's FREE to attend the day! If you'd like to sign up for a day enjoying and improving the outdoors, please head over to eventbrite using this link to confirm your FREE place.
