Calling tree planting volunteers needed for planting near Wellington, Somerset

Come and have a fun day with us at Protect Earth!

What is happening?

This site is owned by a community interest company with the aim that the woodland is locked as an asset for the community for perpetuity.

It currently includes approximately 2-3 acres of ancient woodland and the plan is to plant the rest as a sustainably managed woodland. The owners' priority is to sequester carbon but also with an aim of encouraging biodiversity and engaging with the local community.

As part of the first phase, we will be planting a wide mix of 2000 native broadleaved trees with a further 3,000 next year.

  • Where: near Wellington, Somerset

  • Date: 23.02.24 - 25.02.24

  • Time: 10.00 - 16.00

What do I need?

No previous experience is necessary, we’ll train you up and provide all the necessary equipment. Please come suitably dressed for the weather.

We will provide tea, coffee, and biscuits to keep you going, but please bring your own lunch and snacks, and a refillable water bottle as there will be water available to top up.

Full details will be sent out a week before the event, including the address and meeting place.

We appreciate volunteers who are able to come for part of the day, a whole day or even the whole weekend, and children are welcome. We love it when the local community gets involved in their area, and also welcome guests from further away. It allows us to make new friends, catch up with friends we've made, and learn what people love about their communities while talking to them about enriching local biodiversity.

Whenever possible we encourage volunteers to car share, use public transportation, or even cycle, to keep emissions down and avoid stressing parking space.

What happens if Protect Earth needs to cancel?

Bad weather is difficult to plan for. In general, we will continue to plant if it’s raining, but if it’s looking dangerous or the ground is frozen we will have to cancel an event.

We will try and notify you as soon as we possibly can, and you’ll be invited to the rescheduled event.

How do I confirm I'd like to go?

It's free to attend the day! If you'd like to sign up for a day enjoying and improving the outdoors, please head over to eventbrite using this link to confirm your free place.
