Rooted in Green: Park Avenue Recruitment's Journey to Sustainable Team Building

Greenery and green space are very important to our health.

These spaces and contact with nature impact how we feel inwardly, how we feel outwardly, and how we feel about each other. After working with Park Avenue Recruitment and their team member, Daisy White - a trained Mental Health First Aider, found us wanting to dive deeper into the benefits of green space.

We'll examine this theme of green space from several perspectives over a few pieces: getting feedback from Park Avenue Recruitment and why the team chose to do tree planting for a staff outing. Then, in another piece, we will hear from Daisy White, looking more inwardly at green space benefits. The final piece of this series will look at what researchers and professionals within human and mental health have discovered about the benefits of green space.

Let's kick things off by looking at what the team at Park Avenue Recruitment hoped to get out of their time with us and what they did get!

About Park Avenue Recruitment

In short, we just think supporting the environment in our daily lives is the right thing to do.

Park Avenue Recruitment are a London-based recruitment company with an 18-person strong team.

The team and company support the environment through their work with Ecologi, where they have funded 24 projects resulting in 3,086 trees being planted all over the UK.

The environment isn't the only investment Park Avenue Recruitment makes. They also invest in their team, taking regular Wellness Wednesdays to help the team connect and do good for the surrounding community. For one Wellness Wednesday, the team decided not to fund a new tree planting project but to join along for a project to establish a new woodland with their now blistered hands!

The Heart of Park Avenue Recruitment: A Commitment to Environmental Responsibility

Everyone that took part was actually surprised by how much they enjoyed the tree plant and it has become one of our favourite Wellness Wednesdays.

For Park Avenue Recruitment, this outing wasn't just an ordinary team-building exercise but part of their Wellness Wednesday initiative. The team didn't plan any outcomes to achieve during their time with us. They only hoped everyone who participated enjoyed themselves while giving back to the environment. With plans to document the experience on LinkedIn and TikTok, the team aimed to raise awareness about environmental conservation and showcase their commitment to becoming climate-positive.

You might be wondering if Park Avenue Recruitment frequently engages in activities like this. Typically, their team outings revolve around celebrating team achievements, and this excursion planting trees was a first.

So, why is the environment important for the company and team? Well, it's ingrained into Park Avenue Recruitment's company ethos. They are committed to operating in an environmentally friendly manner and forge partnerships with local authorities to champion sustainability across the UK. Moreover, many team members have a deep-rooted love for nature and wildlife, driving their passion to protect the planet and promote its health. "As individuals, the majority of us at Park Avenue simply love nature," relates Daisy White, the team's Compliance and Marketing Lead. "We love to be outside as much as we can, we REALLY love animals and we want to do as much as we can to look after the planet and make it healthy again."

Since their tree-planting adventure, Park Avenue's team has reflected on the experience and discussed future goals. While specific targets haven't been set, there is a collective desire to get more colleagues involved in more work on environmental initiatives.

Park Avenue Recruitment hopes that at least once a year, the team is outside planting more trees together. "We'd love to make this a yearly tradition, maybe even more frequently in time, going forward!" Daisy elaborates. The enjoyment and sense of fulfilment experienced during the tree-planting excursion have solidified its place as one of the company's favourite Wellness Wednesday activities. And for those who missed out, a touch of envy has sparked interest in joining future eco-friendly endeavours.

To sum up

Park Avenue Recruitment's team really walked the talk, moving from donating to environmental action to acting themselves. While doing so, the team had fun together.

Some of the team that didn’t join us were quite jealous afterwards!

Their initiative not only reflects their dedication to sustainability but also underscores the impact of nature on well-being.
