Our site at Newtown is surrounded by patches of ancient semi-natural woodland including four small wildlife trust nature reserves (ancient woodland and wet meadow) just to the northeast. We’ve now added another 2.5 acres of saplings to the mix and in doing so we should see good connectivity with these exisiting habitats - and a great chance of long term survival for the woodland.

We have predominantly planted oak, with a hazel and holly under-storey. Birch, alder, and aspen have been planted in blocks and belts in the wetter parts of the site, with rowans scattered throughout. Hawthorn and blackthorn were used around the perimeter of the main planting for shelter.

Tree mix: 270 sessile oak, 101 rowan, 94 aspen, 83 alder, 62 hazel, 57 downy birch, 53 hawthorn, 46 holly, 45 blackthorn, and 10 guelder rose
