Volunteer tree planting weekend near South Molton, North Devon

This site is a smallholding and riding stables in North Devon overlooking Exmoor. Horse paddocks can often be short, overgrazed land that is poor for wildlife but the landowners here want to keep the land suitable for their horses while making it as useful as possible for wildlife. With Protect Earth's help, over the next two years, they intend to plant over 700 trees, establish many hundreds of metres of wildlife friendly hedging, and establish areas of wildflower meadows.

Full details will be sent out a week before the event, including the address and meeting place.

We appreciate volunteers who are able to come for part of the day, or a whole day, and children are welcome. We love it when the local community gets involved in their area, and welcome guests from further away. It allows us to make new friends, catch up with friends we've made, and learn what people love about their communities while talking to them about enriching local biodiversity.

What do I need to bring/know?

No previous experience is necessary, we’ll train you up and provide all the necessary equipment. Please come dressed for the weather.

We will provide tea, coffee, and biscuits to keep you going, but please bring your own lunch and snacks, and a refillable water bottle as there will be water available.

Will there be parking?

  • There is on-site parking.

Whenever possible we encourage volunteers to car share, use public transportation, or even cycle, to keep emissions down and avoid stressing parking space.

What happens if we need to cancel?

Bad weather is difficult to plan for. In general we will continue to plant if it’s raining, but if it’s looking dangerous or the ground is frozen we will have to cancel an event. We will try and notify you as soon as we possibly can, and you’ll be invited to the rescheduled event.
